The Regulators: Reuben

Delighted to announce that this summer, I’ll be dropping the first short in my The Regulators: Origins series.

The first one out of the gun is The Regulators: Reuben. It’s very much a WIP at the minute, and I’m doing it alongside Deadline, so I’m not going to give a definite day, but the plan is for it to not be too far down the line.

Reuben was a character that I loved writing in the first book. I was originally going to off him pretty early on, but by sheer force of nature, he forced himself into the reckoning of being a stand out character. I’m delighted to find a way to tell more of his story.

Here’s a sneak, unedited, peak for you all.

And if you’ve not yet got The Regulators or Shadow of Malice yet, head on over to the store and do so now!

Golden Rules

So, I’m at the point now where it’s going to be impossible for me to get this out for Christmas, which was always a major goal of mine. This is due to circumstances outside of my control.

Regardless, I’m absolutely gutted by that. I am itching to share this book with you, but at this point, I need to get that “professional” validation. I’m also angry at myself, because in hiring the people I did, I broke one of my golden rules. It’s a rule I’ll never break again.

In the new year this book will be out. It might be via a different editing team, we will simply have to wait and see what happens, but I won’t be stopped, and this will happen. I’ve worked too hard at this, and I’m too far down the rabbit hole on book two to turn back. This shit is coming, and it’s coming strong when it does.

Keep the faith people. I know I’m having too!

I like to think I’m a patient man. My wife might tell you otherwise.

Writing this book has been an exercise in patience, and I’ve learned a lot of techniques during this process that has made me less inclined to knee jerk into something else (and by god, when the time is right, I’ve some great ideas for some new series.)

The hardest part, has been this last part. Perhaps I came into it being a little naive, perhaps my experience having TV scripts edited set me up to see things differently, but I honestly thought the longest process would be the cover design, not the editing.

The cover went through a dream, thanks to Sean Strong,  but the edit has taken longer. That’s because I had no idea what a huge task fixing my mistakes would be, and also the level of detail that my editors would be working to. I’m so grateful that they are. Without the work being put in now, the book would not be anywhere near what it’s shaping up to be.

It’s really hard for me to sit on my hands and wait, so I’ve not. I’ve cracked on with book two, Shadow of Malice, and I’ll be premiering the first chapter of that at the end of The Regulators.

More importantly, we’re getting closer to nailing down a release date. I can’t wait to do that, and finally share with you all the story of The Regulators.

Until then, sit tight.
